CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Intermediate Wheel Throwing at ClearWater Ceramics Center

Designed for students who have completed at least one beginner wheel class and are comfortable centering clay, pulling walls, and creating basic forms on the wheel. This course helps students take the next step in their pottery journey by refining technique, building consistency, and exploring more complex forms and concepts.

Project Areas: Throughout the 8-week session, students will have the option to explore a variety of guided project prompts. You’re welcome to focus on one area in depth or explore multiple prompts based on your interests and personal goals:

Throwing Large: Learn how to center and throw larger amounts of clay and explore techniques for assembling multi-part forms.

Mastering the Mechanics: Work through your individual sticking points. We’ll identify where you’re struggling and help you strengthen those areas to expand your skillset and confidence at the wheel.

Form and Function: Create unique, purposeful pieces such as teapots or thrown lamps—projects that blend creative form with everyday utility.

Wheel to Table: Design and create your own 16-piece dinnerware set. This path focuses on refining form, practicing repetition, and producing a cohesive collection of functional wares.

Each class includes instructor-led demonstrations, individualized guidance, and access to scheduled Open Studio time for self-directed practice.

Whether you’re working to improve your technique or explore new forms, this class offers the structure and flexibility to help you grow as a potter.
