The Southern Piedmont Woodturners Association (SPW) leases a large space here at ClearWater Arts Center & Studios (Studio 122), and has about 65-70 members. Southern Piedmont Woodturners (SPW) has changed its regular monthly meeting schedule for the New Year (2026), from 3rd Tuesday evening to 4th Saturday morning. Non-members are welcome to attend the first time for free. “Open Turning” and Workshop events for members occur regularly. Any participation in turning activities, unless advertised as a Public Workshop, is only allowed after joining the club and taking appropriate training.
March 2026 Monthly Meeting Demonstration:
Saturday, March 28 – SPW’s March regular meeting, with Turning Demonstration, 9:00 – 11:30 am – SPW will try something new at this meeting and during the workshop that will follow in the afternoon.
The demonstration will be provided by several SPW members, each turning a relatively simple form of the type that typically can be turned quickly yet is attractive, functional, and sells well at craft fairs.
Afternoon Workshop, 1:00: In the afternoon they will have a “Turn for the Fair Turnathon,” the idea being to concentrate on making the items demonstrated in the morning to be used for SPW fundraising tables at the County Fair. This should be a lot of fun, members are encouraged to sign up early to save your spot.
Workshops are currently open only to SPW members. Visitors might be able to join on the spot. Please talk to the SPW leadership at the Meeting, OR, join online at their website (link below).
• March 28 – Also, on that same day, SPW will participate in Cabarrus Arts Council’s Art Walk on Union – as will ClearWater generally, with the Transit Shuttle Van. Details on the event itself, at the Cabarrus Arts Council website, cabarrusartscouncil.org.

SPW has two large overhead screens for showing a demonstrator’s hands up close
Safe turning methods are taught and various turning days held for members monthly!
The Southern Piedmont Woodturners meet for fellowship and technical demonstrations at our studio (#122) at ClearWater Arts Center & Studios, 223 Crowell Drive NW, Concord, NC 28025.
Members bring items to demonstrate how previous demonstrators have influenced their work. We also have a raffle of items to raise funds for the club.
In addition to ClearWater Arts Center & Studios, the SPW is associated with the Cabarrus County Arts Council (CCAC), the American Association of Woodturners (AAW), and the North Carolina Woodturners Association (NCWA).
