We are excited to offer this opportunity for you to work with an outstanding instructor weekly over a six week period.  This will allow you to take the learnings, use them between classes and then get additional feedback to move forward.   In this workshop we will be designing paintings from the photographs you have chosen. We will not be copying them, but cropping, and rearranging elements to simplify and push our creativity. Let’s have fun, while taking some risks with color and design!

Please begin to gather clear photos of subjects that please you, such as flowers, architecture, landscapes, trees etc…whatever interests you.  It is a good idea to begin taking photos with your phones, or small cameras when you see an exciting pattern of light or shadows.  We will not be doing a lot of drawing so don't worry about your skill level in perspective.

Linda likes to begin the class with students gathered around. She will take each student in turn and talk about a photo they have chosen as subject on which they wish to work. Linda will show various approaches to the photos which helps the entire class garner new ways to look at their own work.

Linda will do demos as called for based on subject matter. She recommends that you wait to do any drawing or stretching of paper until the class.  This is an intermediate class.  We will begin immediately on design and will not focus on brushes, paint or paper.

Linda’s training in art began in Europe where she grew up as the daughter of an Army officer. It was there her love of architecture and travel began to develop. A Washington D.C. native, she achieved early success in oil painting in Virginia and New Jersey. Upon discovering watercolor, however, she realized her true medium. Her favorite subjects are regional architecture with bright, bold color transitions, usually including the addition of flowers and strong shadows. She enjoys painting large pieces that require the viewer to stand back!

Her corporate collectors include:

The Marriott Corporation, which owns 27 original paintings and The Industrial Research Center for Japan, Tokyo, which owns more than 26 original watercolors.

Linda lives in the Charlotte Metro area in North Carolina. She shows her work through galleries or by appointment in her studio. Linda teaches locally and also travels conducting workshops, in addition to tutoring by appointment in her studio.

Shown are a couple of examples of Linda’s work.  You can see more on her website at   lindagriffin.com
