This exhibit of their Sample Boards and site photos, on display in the ClearWater Gallery for a limited time (Dec. 9-29), gives a glimpse of the intriguing materials and methods of these ‘Wall Magicians.”

This Saturday, on December 9, the artisans will be available in the Gallery to meet and speak with, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. during ClearWater’s monthly open house, ‘2nd Saturday Open Studios’ (monthly 10a-4p on 2nd Saturdays).

Rose Engine Workshop (Woodturning)

On Saturday, November 11, 2017 (same day as ClearWater's 2nd Saturday Open Studios), from 10:00am until 3:00pm at the Southern Piedmont Woodturners shop at ClearWater Artist Studios (Studio 122), Club members Richard Vanstrum and Fred Connell will preside over a " hands on" Rose Engine Workshop. 
 

Examples of works made with Rose Engine Lathes...

We will review the adjustments we have available on Rose Engines to produce different cuts and patterns.  Everyone will have a chance to operate the Rose Engine and hopefully create their own piece.  We will have Rambling Rose and and MDF Rose Engine.

We will be charging $5 [five dollars] per participant to cover the cost of materials we supply.

All machine operators must wear glasses or safety glasses.  We may order takeout for lunch.

Some advanced techniques will be covered if there is an interest.

Rose Engine Lathe Demo

On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the regular monthly Southern Piedmont Woodturners meeting (in Studio 122, Operations Building), members Jack Reyome and Fred Connell will present a Rose Engine demonstration.

Be sure to see the follow-up Rose Engine workshop on Oct. 28th (listed under Classes).

  1. We present a short power point presentation showing some history, photographs of machines and examples of work and show the difference between Ornamental Turning and Rose Engine work.
  2. We describe the 10 basic parts of a Rose Engine using Rambling Rose and a MDF Rose Engine as an examples.
  3. We use a paper chuck and marking device to show how several of the Rose Engine adjustments effect the outcome.
  4. Finally we use the Rambling Rose Engine to cut some examples.
  5. We will try and answer all questions.

Richard Vanstrum will provide additional Rose Engine parts and equipment for the demonstration.  Roland Hege, Fred Connell and Richard Vanstrum contributed to the power point presentation.


Open and free to the public.  Come out early at 5:30pm to socialize; demonstration will begin at 6:30pm.

National Night Out - hosted by Gibson Village Neighborhood Association

ClearWater Artist Studios is pleased to host this event as part of our partnership with the Gibson Village Community Association.  Here's their invitation:

"Please join the Gibson Village Development Corporation and Community Association for our annual National Night Out on October 10th, 2017 from 6 - 8:00PM at ClearWater Artist Studios near downtown Concord. Be one of the first to tour ClearWater’s new event space. There will be information tables, food and drink, and activities for kids!

The event will provide a laid-back opportunity to meet and greet your neighbors and some local businesses and nonprofits, as well as our friendly service officers, city workers, and some officials. Local candidates for upcoming elections will be out as well, giving you an opportunity to learn more about what they are proposing to do for you and your community.

Bring a potluck dish to share with others! We will provide chicken from Chick-fil-A, sub sandwiches, tea, and water. Cabarrus Brewing Company will also be there serving donated beverages to people over 21.

We would love to see a record turnout! So, bring your friends and family out for food, fun, and a chance to mingle. 

LOCATION: ClearWater Artist Studios at 223 Crowell Drive NW. Parking is free and plentiful, in two lots along Crowell Drive NW and with overflow parking capacity in the field across the stream from ClearWater.

Adopt-A-Stream Cleanup Day

Concord Wildlife Alliance is calling all volunteers for their second clean-up this year. ClearWater Artist Studios is pleased to provide the home base for operations, for the third year running...we like a clean stream!

Join the CWA, Lion's Club, Concord Youth Council, and the Gibson Village Community to clean the trash out of the Academy Branch stream (which lines the back of the property at ClearWater Artist Studios). Waders, gloves, snacks, water, and bathrooms available.

Parking in the ClearWater Artist Studios lots on Crowell Drive; walk down to back of ClearWater buildings to meeting spot under the awning over covered patio.  Meet at 10:00 a.m.; after that, the group will disperse into the stream with periodic breaks.

3rd Annual Pound Cake Portrait Paint-Off Extravaganza!

On Saturday, February 18th, 2017 ClearWater Artist Studios held their 3rd Annual
‘Sun Drop Pound Cake Portrait Paint-Off.’ The signature event, unique to the Studios, drew
roughly 150 visitors to watch 13 painters work live, completing portraits from a single model in
under two hours.  Guests could tour studios, buy ClearWater T-shirts, eat cake and bid on or byy raffle tickets for sumptuous gift baskets donated by our generous community partners.

Louise Farley - Outside the Lines

 

RECEPTION FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 5 - 8 PM

We're proud to announce the opening of a solo show exhibition of paintings by artist Louise Farley, titled ‘Outside the Lines.’ The show will be on view in the ClearWater Gallery at 223 Crowell Dr. NW, in Concord, from Nov. 4 through Dec. 31, 2016.  The Opening Reception is Friday evening, November 11, from 5-8pm with refreshments.  All are welcome.

The artist will also give an ‘Artist Talk,’ discussing her approach, style etc. the following day at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 12, 2016—which is also ‘2nd Saturday Open Studios’– a monthly open house featuring ClearWater’s resident artists in their studios with doors open from 10am.  Doors close on 2nd Saturdays at 4pm.

Also featured at today’s 2nd Saturday will be Santa! Live and happy to greet children and parents alike. From 11am-2pm.
 
Louise Farley is one of the ‘original’ leasing artists at ClearWater, renting her studio there since renovated studios were first made available in 2011. She commutes from Charlotte, where she lives with her husband, John. She is finally back to her painting career, which got a promising start, then had a long hiatus due to a divorce and single-motherhood. For over 20 years—during which she raised two children and supported the family by running her own boutique in Charleston, SC, including designing and sewing the clothing she sold there—she did not paint.  Since 2005, however, she has immersed herself in painting full-time, teaching occasional workshops at John C. Campbell Folk School and other art centers, and giving lessons in her studio.  This show marks her third solo show in the region this year; and her very first solo show in the 2,200 sq. ft. Gallery at ClearWater Artist Studios.  

The show includes a new body of work Farley has been painting since June, never before exhibited: pictures from Africa, inspired by photos taken by her stepdaughter who travelled there earlier this Spring. “It has given me a new enthusiasm and reinvigorated my work,” Farley said of the new subject matter. “I love the colors, and the energy between the people.”
 
Louise Farley grew up in Tennessee and earned her BFA degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She has lived in Charlotte since 2008.
 
Viewing the show—if you miss the Opening Reception or Artist Talk, or want to come back to look at your leisure, ClearWater’s Gallery is open to the public Weds-Friday Noon-6pm; every 2nd Saturday 10am-4pm; or by appointment during the week. The inaugural Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Fine Arts Department Faculty Exhibition, at ClearWater Artist Studios Gallery!

WHAT: A collection of fresh, contemporary works by twelve or so of the Visual Arts Faculty within that department, both full-time and adjunct!

Local Daniel Boone Descendant Interprets History Through Art; Opening Sept. 9 Concord, NC – A local artist descended from the legendary Daniel Boone aims to express the intertwining legacies his research has uncovered, via his own paintings in a new solo show and related events at ClearWater Artist Studios in Concord, NC. It will become a traveling exhibit.

The solo exhibition “Return to the Land of My Ancestors,” on view in the Main Gallery at ClearWater Artist Studios from September 1 to 30, 2016 will feature 16 oil paintings, 15 watercolors and other artifacts created by Robert Alvin Crum, who currently resides in Salisbury, NC and leases a studio at ClearWater Artist Studios. The debut show in the ClearWater Gallery is part of ClearWater’s ‘Guest Artist’ Series, which began this year and has the Gallery booked, with a new show each month, into 2017.

Through his paintings and other creations, Crum explores revelations of his family’s slave-ownership, battles, love and politics, pioneers and natives, and spiritual connections to the land and the people who moved across it two centuries ago. The exhibit “…tells a story and takes one on a journey,” says the artist, who relates that, growing up in Illinois, he was often told by family that he is a direct descendant of the explorer and “Father of Kentucky” Daniel Boone and his wife Rebecca Bryan. After moving to North Carolina in 1989, he realized he was living and walking in the same places as his Boone and Bryan ancestors.

Crum has extensively researched and completed an award-winning body of oil and watercolor paintings that tell the story of cultural conflict in the 18th century North Carolina backcountry that led to America’s initial expansion into Kentucky and beyond. The project received a 2016 Preservation Education and Publication Award from Historic Salisbury Foundation, Inc. and an Arts and Cultural Development Grant from Rowan Arts Council.

The Public is invited to an Opening Reception on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, including refreshments, music by local musician LeDerick Blackburn and a short storytelling session by author and Boone historian Randell Jones. On Saturday, September 10 (during Open Studios day at ClearWater) from 11 am to 4 pm, this journey will be complimented with refreshments, entertainment and an “Artist Talk” by Robert Alvin Crum. That Art Night!

This Friday at Cabarrus Brewing Company!

'That Art Night' is THIS FRIDAY EVENING, 8/5/16 at Cabarrus Brewing Company; starts at 6:00 p.m.

A partnership of Cabarrus Arts Council and various other local art organizations (including us), 'That Art Night' will be every first Friday, at Cabarrus Brewing Co. in the Gibson Mill (just around the corner from us)!
Walter Stanford Fine Art has the very first, the inaugural 'That Art Night'-- he'll be working live from 6pm on, inside the brewery, up by the bar-- and he's been working hard all week to have some examples ready. If you haven't seen his amazing pastels and oil paintings of raptors, you're missing out!
