For October 2019 Demo /Monthly Meeting Program:
SOUTHERN PIEDMONT WOODTURNERS
Invite you to enjoy an evening with
“LONG STEM GOBLET”
October’s demonstrator will be Joe Giannina from the Waxhaw Woodturning Club. Joe will share how our late Ed Pfau motivated him to start making long stem goblets. We will learn the proper selection of wood and why the longer the stem, the more important the selection is. We will learn how the use of a steady rest helps speed up the process and how to prevent the shaft from whipping while turnng. Joe uses a 3/8” spindle gouge and a skew to turn most of the goblet. He will also demonstrate the use of a forstner bit and a round carbide tool to hollow the cup. Joe plans to even explain how to display the finished goblet without it falling over. We will have the opportunity to see several of Joe’s goblets and hear his explanation of them. There will be time for questions and answers.
