Description:
Join Susan for a dynamic demonstration of her use of artistic expression in the foundational layer of a painting to create depth and energy in the final product. She will show us this technique across two distinct subjects: whimsical pet portraits and intricate, patterned painting. While the finished pieces look entirely different, Susan reveals how she uses a similar, intentional approach to underpainting as a critical, foundational element.
About the Artist: Contemporary artist Susan Lackey’s paintings explore the complex moods and emotions of modern life. By balancing color, shape, and light, she moves past strict realism to capture the raw expression of her subjects and abstractions. Her highly textural process involves layering translucent acrylics with heavy impasto, collage, and often embedded objects. Lackey holds an art degree from East Carolina University and has earned two prestigious North Carolina Arts Council grants. She is a frequent guest speaker whose award-winning work has been represented by prominent galleries in the greater Charlotte area. Her art has been accepted into numerous national, state, and local juried exhibitions.
